The Puli is an excellent herder
The Puli is originally from Hungary. It was actually a pet that was kept by the Magyar tribe to be a herding dog for their sheep.
The smallest of the herding dogs of these people resembled the modern-day Puli, and this was over 1,000 years ago.
Some say that this dog is even older. Some believe that the dog came from the Tibetan terrier over 2,000 years ago. No matter where this dog came from, it was always used for sheep herding purposes in its home country of Hungary.
The Puli has a very unique coat
There is no dog with a coat that is quite like that of the puli. This dog’s coat is actually a double coat like many other dogs. The double coat on this dog is all long though, and it cords very easily.
The cords on this dog almost look like dreadlocks. The two layers of the puli’s coat easily become tangled, which helps to create these cords.
This double coat can keep the puli safe in regards to bad weather and in regards to predators who may try to attack it. It is possible to not have cords by brushing the dog constantly.
The Puli is a small dog
Despite being a masterful herding dog, the puli is a relatively small breed. The females are slightly smaller than the males as they stand at around 42 centimeters. The makes stand at around 45 centimeters.
The fur of this dog grows as the height of this dog grows. It will actually not shed anymore when the dog has reached its maximum height.

Only one is utilized by the enthusiasts of this breed, however, by being the most proper meaning. That plural form is that of pulik, and it is often the only form used by these enthusiasts.
The Puli is overall cheerful
Overall, the puli has a kind and cheerful disposition. It gets along with other dogs and with children as long as training occurs early and if it feels like it is not being provoked. It is also a very intelligent dog so is easy to train.
The puli should be watched around children especially for them easily provoking it. Teach your children how to best approach dogs in order to avoid this.

The Puli very much enjoys competition. Despite its small stature and heavy cords, it excels at competitions that involve agility and strength.

The Puli needs its cords taken care of
If a puli has cords, they need to be taken care of. They should be untangled every day in order to prevent pain. If there ends up being a large knot, this can be painful to get rid of and can result in unnecessary injuries.
A puli also needs its cords trimmed regularly. This will prevent the dog from tripping on its own fur when walking due to the cords touching the ground.

The Puli is very healthy
The puli will keep up its muscular stature throughout most of its life. It is a very healthy dog.
There are actually no genetic mutations that are seen through this breed, especially since it is such a pure and old breed that has been brought up for specific reasons.
There are a few problems that your puli may have to endure later in life though. Due to the work they do, the puli may eventually develop hip dysplasia.
They may also get allergies in their eyes which may be caused by their fur getting in their eyes.
