Fun Facts About the Cavapom Dog Breed

One fact you must know about Cavapom dogs is that they’re adorable little balls of energy. Not only are they full of energy, but they’re adorable as well. Cavapom’s are social dogs. They love being around people.

They are playful and also very loving towards the people that care for them. All any dog wants is to be loved and cared for. With that being said, if you are the type of person that’s going to be home a lot, then this is the perfect breed for you.

What is the price of Cavapom puppies?

Cavapom puppies are very tiny dogs. But just because they’re tiny, doesn’t mean they’re inexpensive.

They can tend to be very expensive. In that case, you should expect to pay between $1,000 and $1,700 if you’re serious about getting a Cavapom. Also, understand that the Cavapom price is a reflection of their parents.

The Cavapom is a hybrid of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Pomeranian. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel can cost up to $3,500, and the average price of the Pomeranian is about $1,000.

Keep in mind that if the parents were show-quality dogs, then their puppies are going to be more expensive. And because these dogs have grown in popularity over the years, there’s been a huge increase of breeders looking to sell Cavapoms.

One thing you may have to be watchful of is looking out for shady breeders. Some breeders try to hide the parent’s dogs’ pedigree papers and overcharge the price of the Cavapom.

If the breeder is unable to provide you with the pedigree papers or tell you any information about the parents, then that’s a clear sign that they are not to be trusted, and you should look for another breeder.

Physical traits

Everyone knows that Cavapoms are small dogs. They’ve inherited their traits from their parents.

One feature that makes them stand out from the rest is the fact that they have this uniquely smooth, silky fur that you’ll only find on Spaniels. Because the fur is thin and medium length, it makes grooming much easier. It’s important to keep your Cavapom groomed, especially if they tend to be outside a lot.

Sometimes if their hair is too long, they can suffer from heatstroke if they’re outside for long periods. Because a Cavapom is a tiny dog, they normally don’t grow any heavier than 15 pounds. And with them being so tiny and lightweight, it’s easier to pick them up and carry them around as you please.

But most of all it’s important that you know the life expectancy of your dog. Cavapom dogs have an average life span of 11 years. It’s a lot less compared to other smaller dogs, but it’s simply based on the fact that there’s not a lot of information out there because this is a fairly new breed.

Personality traits and intelligence

The intelligence of a Cavapom is fairly moderate at best. When it comes down to training them, they are very obedient. So if you’re worried about whether or not they’ll listen to you then hopefully this can ease your mind. But, there are some things you should worry about.

For instance, if there is a new dog or another animal that they don’t recognize, and they feel like their personal space is intruded, they do tend to get irritated. But if they get neutered, this will not be a problem.

The upside is that they love to play and run around. And if you have children, this breed of dog will be a perfect match for you because they get along with children. As long as you train them properly, then you should have no worries about them getting aggressive with your children.

Diet

Because Cavapoms are so small, they need as much food as the averages dog. The most they need, on average, is 1.5 cups of food every day. If you give them more than that, it will most likely result in weight gain, and because they’re naturally small, their bodies are not built to carry more pounds than needed.

So you must monitor their food intake because if not, it can lead to some serious health issues. It is also recommended that you feed them dry food as opposed to wet food. The reason being is because wet food can increase the lost teeth.

At an early age, Cavapoms are already prone to losing their teeth, and wet food can only make matters worse. That is why dry food is recommended. And because Cavapoms like to stay active, it’s very beneficial to their health.

Staying active is the best thing your dog can do to remain healthy. But besides that, they’re very strong dogs. So you don’t have to worry about dipping into your pockets and taking them to the vet every so often.

The only minor concern you should have is that they do tend to get rashes and parasites because of how much they spend their time outside. But that can be easily treated with a topical ointment.

Female and male

If you’re serious about getting Cavapom, then you should be in your interest to decide which gender you want to lean more towards. Cavapom males and females look very much alike. Sometimes it’s even hard to tell which from which. Only an expert breeder would be able to tell the difference.

Like most breeds, the males tend to be a little bit bigger than the females. But the males are only bigger by a few pounds. Now in terms of personality, there’s a huge difference between males and females.

Females like to go about there day on their terms. They like to explore on their own and sometimes lounge when they need some downtime. This doesn’t mean they are antisocial.

Females are still loving and seek affection, but unlike the males, they’re not going to be attached to your hip every second of the day.

Unlike females, males like to be included in everything that you do. You could be trying to relax, and the first thing they want to do is stick their nose in your business. But don’t get discouraged. It only means that your dog wants to apart of your everyday routine.
